Janelle

Welcome back to Me/Us/U, a podcast produced by students at Susquehanna University.

[Me/Us/U theme music fades out then Haunted SU theme music fades in, spooky music]

On this episode, we seek to answer the long pondered question: is Susquehanna University haunted?

Janelle

Haley

Haley

Tanner

and Tanner as we get advice from the Paranormal Club, explore allegedly haunted places and discuss the hit film Ghost.

Haley

Our ragtag group of ghost hunters will explore whether or not ghosts exist. If we can communicate with them, and if they’re found on our campus.

Tanner

Will Janelle become less scared?

Haley

Will Tanner face her fears?

Janelle

Will Haley learn to scream?

Haley

Why haven’t Shane and Ryan from Ghost Files responded to our e-mail?

Tanner

And can we even prove anything?

Janelle

Our journey spans one haunted House, one potentially haunted building, and we do it all for the pod.

[Haunted SU them music gets louder then fades out]

Welcome to our segment of Haunted SU. So, to start things off, I’m Janelle and my personal stance on ghosts is a little undetermined. I’m not against believing that they’re real, but I’m also really scared to think that they are real. So I’d like to not think that they’re real. I like waver between a skeptic. The real point of this is that I am just very easily scared.

[clown noises cuts in and says in the background, audio from Janelle in the haunted house]

I already really don’t like this Haley. I really don’t like it. AH! Oh God! Ah, Oh God!

[clown music fades out]

So even if I like in the end, don’t believe that ghosts exist like if anything happens, I will be afraid for the rest of my life. And I like, I stay away from haunted houses. I don’t watch scary movies. I can’t even watch things like Criminal Minds like before I go to bed because I get so spooked. I’m very paranoid. So I’m just a very scared person. Like, so scared. But to be frank, I do not [bleep] with ghosts. Whether or not they are real. I do not [bleep] with them.

Haley

Hi, I’m Haley. Um, I think that I kind of have a similar stance to Janelle in the sense that I’m not necessarily sure that I believe in ghosts, but in case that they are real, I would rather just keep my distance. I don’t really feel the need to be friends or like bother them.

Tanner

Agreed, agreed.

Haley

I just think they’re-they’re there. If they’re there. I don’t know. I’ve never really been the type of person who actually, like, gets scared, like necessarily, like. To the extent of screaming, OK. And recently it’s kind of come to my attention that, like, what if I don’t know how to? Like, what if I genuinely would not be able to scream in fear?

Tanner

So, are you telling us that you’ve never screamed in your life before?

Haley

I’ve like yelled, but I don’t think I’ve ever technically screamed.

Tanner

Like screamed at the top of your lungs?

Haley

I don’t think I have.

Janelle

Well, we’re going to get your scream.

[Haley laughs]

Tanner

Yeah.

Haley

I’ve seen every episode of BuzzFeed Unsolved, and I’m currently still watching Ghost files. A lot of the time they’ll, like, play a recording, and it’s just like, like, clearly like static or like someone like bumping into something and they’ll be like, and here it sounds like they said this. And I’m like, this is BS.

Janelle

No, I agree.

Haley

And but I’m still paranoid. I’m still very paranoid as just in general as a person, so [laugh]that’s-that’s kind of my personal stance.

Janelle

For-for our listeners, we did reach out to Shane and Ryan on both Instagram and over e-mail to try and get them to interview for this podcast. They have not responded. Did we expect them to? No. Are we still offended?

Everyone

Yes.

Tanner

Hey everyone. My name is Tanner. Um, I would say that I’m in the middle of these two gals. I would say that I’m the mediator because I’m not really like scared easily like Janelle. But I’m not like, not scared at all like Hayley, so I would say I think ghosts are real. Like I feel like ghosts are real, but I try not to think about it because I don’t want to get scared like that. Do you know what I mean when I say that?

Janelle

I do know what you mean when you say that.

Tanner

Yeah. Good.

Haunted houses scare me, but scary movies do not. I could sit in a cabin in the middle of the woods by myself with windows surrounding me, and I could watch a scary movie and I would probably be fine.

Janelle

That is psychotic.

Tanner

Yeah…

Haley

I’m just insanely paranoid. Like I went on vacation with my friend and like I we didn’t watch anything scary, and I was still laying there and I was like. Someone’s outside.

Janelle

I would like to turn off the lights downstairs and I would Sprint up the stairs like something was chasing me, so I was like something’s going to grab me in the dark.

Tanner

Yeah, that was definitely me.

Janelle

Or like if I heard any sort of noise I would have to like fully do like a walk through of my entire house. Look behind every door in every closet and I would have to be carrying something with me like.

Tanner

Oh really?

Janelle

I would go grab like a huge knife from the kitchen to carry around with me while I checked my entire house when I was home alone.

Tanner

That’s interesting.

Janelle

There was a brief point after Tangled came out that I would carry a frying pan around with me, cause I was like I could be her.

Tanner

Oh, period.

Tanner

I was more of the kid. That was, I was the kid that like, just hid under my covers and thought that that would, like, get me out of the situation. You know what I mean? Like, if I’m under something else, the ghosts aren’t going to get me. And those noises are just going to disappear. But I can definitely second the running up the stairs in the dark because I was scared. That does happen a lot. Even though I know nothing’s there, it’s like a mental thing I guess.

Janelle

Yeah. So I guess like the next thing, have any of you had any sort of like paranormal experiences or like weird happenings?

Tanner

I can’t say that I’ve had. I can’t say that I have, honestly.

Haley

My mom claims that she has, but I honestly don’t remember the story, so I can’t really tell it.

Tanner

Oh my gosh, wait. This could be a moment. So, I remember sitting on the couche, I was at my boyfriend’s house, and it was just me, him and the dog. And the dog came into the living room, and there’s another room that’s like-you can see from sitting on the couch. And all of the sudden  like a blue ball that the dog that is a dog’s toy just rolled across the room. And it really freaked me out. Like it actually really freaked me out. And we have an ongoing, like, saying that his house was haunted. And I think that that is. I don’t know if that’s an interaction with a ghost, but maybe a little kid was trying to play with us or something. You know?

Janelle

Maybe.

I have a few stories, actually. I think that my suite is currently haunted just a little bit. I mean, it’s mainly a joke, but also we joke that we have the ghost of a Pi Kapp brother in our suite.

Tanner

Oh.

Janelle

Which is scary enough to begin with.

Tanner

I was just going to say that’s a little traumatizing.

Haley

I’m sorry.

Janelle

Yeah, it is traumatizing. He’s kind of a [bleep] I don’t think I can say that on this podcast.

Tanner

We’ll bleep it.

Janelle

The main thing is like we’ve had, like the TV is just like tweaking and that is definitely just the problem with this TV and not a ghost but like. It will randomly turn on and like start scrolling or like we’ll be like watching stuff on the TV and like

Tanner

That would really freak me out.

Janelle

and it’ll like turn off or like we were trying to watch. So really how this all got around to it being Pi Kapp brother was that one day we were watching like the Parent Trap and it like turned it off and we were like wow, this must be a man haunting our TV because he doesn’t like our girly movies that we put on. And then my sweet mate was in there and she was showing off this like wine class that she had found at the thrift store. That had the Pi Kapp letters painted on it

Tanner

Oh, shit.

Janelle

Like very clearly, like homemade, and she bought it because she thought was hilarious. And so as we’re seeing out there talking about like Pi Kapp and all of this stuff, like the TV turned on and started crawling. And we’re like, oh, my gosh, it’s a Pi Kapp brother that lives here right now and we’re like,

Tanner

Ohh, they’re trying to send you a message.

Janelle

Like that’s kinda crazy. But the weirdest thing that happened, we started having to take the batteries out of the remote so that the TV wouldn’t turn on. But then this one night it the TV turned on in the middle of the night as her playing football. And like, somebody went out there, I think, and took the batteries out of the remote. And then it turned on again and like started like playing it like full volume at like 5:00 AM and then I went out there and I was scared shitless

Tanner

Yeah, that’s trippy.

Janelle

When I saw that the remote, like the batteries were already out of the remote. And I was like hello? And then, and then! Like, I just put the batteries back in the remote, turn the TV off, took the batteries back out. And like, went back to bed and turned on again for like a third time and again started playing football at like full volume.

Tanner

Definitely a Pi Kapp brother.

Janelle

I have no clue. But yeah, and then my roommate, Gracie, had to go out into the living room and unplug the TV to get it to stop turning on at full volume when we’re sleeping.

Tanner

That’s creepy.

Janelle

It was creepy.

Tanner

That would really throw me off.

Janelle

And again, I’m like-I call, I call him Kappy. I call the ghost Kappy and he is being kind of an asshole right now. Like, why would you want? Like you’re not allowed to watch football at 5:00 AM. I’m sorry. Those are house rules, you know.

Tanner

Yeah, maybe. Do you have a house rules list? You should add that to the bottom.

Janelle

We don’t, but like it should have been-I I guess we didn’t know that we had, like, a another roommate living with us. Otherwise we would have included Kappy in the roommate agreement. You know?

Tanner

Yeah.

Janelle

The other thing is I’ve had several friends that have had some really weird paranormal experiences. My friend, one of my best friends that I met, we were flat mates in Scotland, Ally, she has-Can see ghosts. Um, she had…

Tanner

Anyone wondering, my eyes just went really wide.

Janelle

She had a friend, Olivia, when she was little that did not exist, and it was not like an imaginary friend. It was like she physically saw this girl could describe like what she was wearing, like, talk to her, played with her for hours. Like all of this stuff.

Tanner

That’s scary

Janelle

One day, Olivia did not come back, but we, we always said that Olivia was watching over us in Scotland. She was for a friendly ghost. She also saw, there was like a man with a hat that was in her shower, sometimes not when she was in the shower, just like she go into the bathroom and the man with the hat would be in the shower.

Tanner

That’s scary. Like when I was much younger, I used to be really freaked out, like I was scared of what was behind the shower curtain.

Janelle

I agree.

Tanner

And that’s gonna make that fear come back to me.

Janelle

Sorry.

Tanner

It’s OK I guess.

Janelle

But so Olivia was with Olivia was a real one. She stopped showing up after a while, so we hope Olivia found peace and rest.

Tanner

Is that like a thing with some kids? Because I feel like I’ve seen this before. Like people, like younger kids saying to their parents, like oh look at that. Look at Jimmy in the corner.

Janelle

Yeah. And obviously, I guess she could have still just had a very active imagination, but it was weirder than an imaginary friend. But I feel like kids for the most part, are aware that they have imaginary friends where, like, she like talked to and played with Olivia, and she also has sleep paralysis like she has demons that come out of the ceiling and try to eat her in her sleep.

Tanner

Oh my God.

Janelle

And also a man with a hat that stands in the corner.

Tanner

The same one that stands in the shower?

Janelle

I think it’s a different man.

Haley

I was gonna say a constant in her life.

[laughing]

Tanner

What does the man in the hat mean? What does it represent?

Haley

It’s the man in the yellow hat from Curious George.

Janelle

Oh my god, it is. That would be that would scare me.

Haley

She would be like, King?

Tanner

That tall and lengthy man?

Janelle

Get out of here.

Haley

He doesn’t have a name. Why does he have a name?

Tanner

Ohh, he doesn’t?

Haley

What is his name?

Tanner

Just the man in the yellow hat.

Haley

Yeah, what’s his name?

Janelle

Yeah, he’s just the man in the yellow hat, I think.

Haley

Why doesn’t he have one?

Janelle

That’s a great question.

Haley

Names give you power. He doesn’t want you to dispel him.

Tanner

No, because Curious George has his power.

Janelle

So maybe he is an evil spirit.

So in this episode, we’re gonna investigate the man with the yellow hat and why he doesn’t have a name.

Tanner

Curious George!

[all laughing and talking over each other]

Tanner

Well, should we talk about Ouija boards really quick?

Janelle

OK, this is an anti Ouija board podcast.

Tanner

Yes.

Janelle

And if you ever encourage us that you should have done, Ouija board and… shut up. Shut up and don’t contact us. We will not mess with Ouija boards.

Tanner

None of us.

Haley

We are trying for ghosts, not demons.

Tanner

OK, so if we’re against Ouija boards, can I get an “I” please?

Everyone

“I”

Janelle

But, anyway to pivot a little bit, what have you guys heard about ghosts on Susquehanna campus? Like what stories have you heard? If you’ve heard any?

Tanner

UM, I’ve heard some about Weber Chapel, obviously. A couple of Greek houses I’ve heard are haunted. The stories may be true, they may be false, but that’s what I’ve heard.

Haley

Most of what I’ve heard is very surface level. Again kind of like, oh yeah, it’s haunted here. And I’m kind of like, OK, but like, what leads you to believe that?

Tanner

I think that’s the part of the reason I really wanted to do this episode was because I’ve always heard stuff, but nothing beneath the surface and I want to know more.

Janelle

Yeah, I’ve heard of, like a faceless, uh, faceless little girl in Weber Chapel. Also a man with a hat. Again, men with hat are everywhere.

Tanner

That must be like a common, like the universe trying to tell you something.

Janelle

Maybe there are species of ghost. I think, Ryan, I think Shane said that in an episode of Ghost Files that like men with a hat are like a species.

Tanner

That would make sense because of their commonalities, yeah.

Janelle

Yeah. I’ve heard things about like Seibert and Hassinger as well.

Tanner

Yeah, for sure

Haley

The GO House is something that I heard about.

Tanner

Ohh I I think I’ve heard about that.

Janelle

I think the Go house is haunted as well.

Haley

My roommate used to live there and I was like, oh Haunted podcast and she was like so are you going to the GO House?

Janelle

Yeah.

Tanner

Maybe we should explore. But I think something also to know as thou we live very close to a cemetery right behind campus cemeteries.

Janelle

Yeah, that is true.

Haley

There are three in Selinsgrove, 2 on campus, like, like, right by campus.

Tanner

Oh my God.

Last semester I did walk through the cemetery in order for something for a class, but it was in the daylight, so no worries.

Janelle

See, I do think because in that little book that I read, it said that they don’t believe that the cemetery is haunted. And I’m like that should be the one place that is haunted.

Tanner

Right?

Haley

I don’t know if I believe anywhere is haunted.

[Haley Laughs]

Tanner

Maybe they are peaceful?

Janelle

I mean, I don’t know that I believe anywhere is haunted either. I just think that Webber Chapel is genuinely so creepy that…

Haley

I just think it’s old. I think that people are like “our campus is boring, we need to find something interesting about it”.

Janelle

Yeah, I don’t know.

Tanner

We’re going to come up with a conclusion is campus haunted or not?

Haley

I think that our conclusion is going to be that we cannot determine it. I’m going to be so real.

Janelle

I I mean, yes, I feel like in the end, we’re gonna be like, well, we explored one out of many places that have legends about them.

Tanner

And our resources and experience is very limited. So, I think our listeners need to remember that.

Janelle

Has I suddenly found conclusive evidence of ghosts? Probably not.

Haley

No!

Tanner

Guys! What about like the field recorders and stuff? They always pick up things? The field recorders… That’s not what I meant to say.

Haley

I think it’s fake.

Janelle

I feel like they could be from other. Like there’s times like in Ghost files where I’m like that is definitely caused by something else. And then there’s instances where I’m like, OK, that’s creepy.

Tanner

Hmm, but what about Demi Lovato singing to the ghost?

Janelle

That had trauma?

Tanner

She wouldn’t have done it if it was fake. Why would she sing to a ghost if she wasn’t being…?

Janelle

Are we questioning… OK? Demi Lovato also believe she was like kidnapped by aliens.

Tanner

That’s true?

Haley

Yeah.

I think that they just…

Tanner

“Yeah”…Silence

[Tanner laughs]

Haley

I think that they just believe it like I think that they believe it, you know, like it’s not.

Janelle

Yeah, I think Demi Lovato, like they look like they truly believed that they were like, yeah, I think people believe…

Tanner

So maybe we’ll just have to take that interaction with a grain of salt.

Janelle

I think that we’ve also…

Haley

I think that Demi Lovato’s ghost hunting show should not be our Bible personally.

Tanner

I want it to be my Bible.

[everyone laughs]

Janelle

For our listeners, I would like to say that we also have reached out to Demi Lovato for comment and they have not responded to us. I think Demi Lovato will be very offended if they ever listen to our podcast.

Tanner

Please don’t

Haley

I think that they’d be disappointed that we didn’t fully trust them? At least I didn’t fully trust them. Tanner has given.

Janelle

Tanner has been…

Haley

Surrendered

[laughs]

Janelle

Listen. Demi Lovato, just to me, is not the most trustworthy person when they’re like singing to ghosts like singing Skyscraper to ghosts because of their trauma.

[Haley starts singing the song Skyscraper by Demi Lavato]

[Tanner laughing]

Tanner

Leave that in.

Janelle

Like, I feel like if you’re a ghost and you haven’t, you haven’t moved on and you just don’t haunting somewhere. I think you have trauma like, I think that’s a given. So I don’t think they needed to be like [gasp!] they have trauma!

Tanner

But, Demi released their trauma by singing them Skyscraper!

[everyone laughing]

Janelle

You think? [everyone laughing] OK, Tanner, if you were dead and you were a ghost that was eternally haunting someplace.

Tanner

I would feel honored, honored that she sang to me!

Haley

What if it was like a pop star from like 30 years after you died? Like you’ve been dead for a really long time.

Tanner

I bet my great grandchildren would love it.

Haley

Yeah, but like, do they know it’s you?

Tanner

Yes.

Janelle

Or what about hundreds of years from now? Some random pop stars starts singing one of their songs to you, not even like a song that you might have known. OK.

Haley

You died in 1832.

Janelle

Like somebody 100 years from now showing up and singing you something that they wrote that you had never heard or had any sort of association with. Now, if Taylor Swift showed up after I was dead and started singing any of her songs to me, I think that would heal my trauma. But like some random pop star 100 years from now singing one of their songs, I don’t know?

Tanner

Well, if it was one of their songs, that would be different.

Haley

How old was the ghost that she was singing to?

Janelle

I don’t know.

Haley

Again, like we can’t reach out to the ghost for comment. So like.

Janelle

Probably died before Skyscraper came out for sure.

Tanner

If anyone if any pop star sang me a Taylor Swift song, I would rise from the dead.

[everyone laughs]

And if my trauma? Whatever trauma I had, would be healed as soon as the first note came out.

Haley

Have you guys seen the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze?

Janelle

No.

Tanner

No. But I love Patrick Swayze.

Haley

It’s the one where he does the pottery.

[laughs]

Janelle

Pottery. Yeah. Yeah. Have you ever seen, like, the really iconic movie poster of like, there’s a girl at a pottery wheel, and then there’s like a guy behind her, like with the arms.

Tanner

No, let me. I’m gonna look this up on the interwebs.

Haley

And who’s who else is? It’s like Whoopi Goldberg, who’s in the movie. And, like, Whoopi Goldberg’s a psychic. And she communicates-like Patrick’s Swayze is using her to communicate with while he is dead to his wife, who’s still alive. Like, who killed him?

Janelle

The wife killed him?!

Haley

No [laughs] No, like he’s trying to like, try to tell the wife who killed him.

Tanner

Oh, this?

Janelle

Oh, yes.

Haley

I don’t remember who killed him.

Tanner

Talk about romance.

Haley

Yeah, I was listening to a podcast the other day where they talked about the scene. And because, like, it’s like an advice show. McElroy Brothers podcast. My brother, My brother and Me, and someone asked them like, hey, like I’m a potter and people keep asking me if I like, like, like, do the scene from Ghost. I think that we should try to like, I think that people should ask ghosts, if they do that.

Janelle

We can ask them.

[Haley laughs]

I will ask them. Have you ever tried to recreate that scene from Ghost with somebody at a pottery wheel?

Tanner

Wait, disclaimer. We are here to have fun. We are.

Janelle

We are here to have a good time. And we’re gonna ask some ghost, goblins and ghouls if Demi Lovato has ever sang to them, OK?

Haley

We’re going to ask them if they’ve recreated the scene from Ghost. We’re going to ask them if they’re traumatized.

[laughs]

Janelle

We’re gonna ask them if they’ve ever met Shane and Ryan. Why are you here? Well, that’s kind of more of a serious one that they ask all the time.

Haley

What’s your favorite place to hang on campus and why?

Tanner

Yeah, we would like a 300 word response please.

[everyone laughs]

Welcome to college.

Haley

Welcome to campus

Janelle

Times New Roman 12 point font, please.

Haley and Janelle

Double spaced.

Haley

Submit it to canvas by 11:59 PM October 31st.

[Haunted SU theme music fades in then out, new guitar strumming/elevator music fades in and stays under the upcoming ad]

Haleys AD:

Hi there folks. The good people at M/Us/U would like to issue a statement on the subject of Ouija boards. Do not leave any comments telling us that we should have used Ouija board. We are an anti-Ouija board podcast. We do not mess with that shit and neither should you. Do not use Ouija boards. I repeat, do not use Ouija boards. If you end up getting cursed, that is on you, don’t tell us we don’t want to know. We don’t want to be associated with you if you’re cursed, save us both the trouble and stay away from Ouija boards. Don’t even try to tell us about the spooky experience your cousin had playing with it that one time your Cousin’s stupid. Don’t use Ouija boards.

[AD music fades out and into the Haunted SU theme music]

Haley

The following segment is an investigation of Webber Chapel. Spirits are said to interfere with technological devices, and their presence may have resulted in some discrepancies in our audio. If you have any difficulty hearing us or the ghosts, please see the Me/Us/U website for a full episode transcript. Thank you.

Janelle

Important interview question, do you think that the Hat Man Ghost could be the man in the yellow hat from Curious George?

Kelly

At this rate..

George

I can only hope.

Haley

Today we’ll be investigating Webber Chapel, a known hub for paranormal activity on campus. For this segment, we are joined by Kelly and George, two members of the Paranormal Club Exec Board.

[New eerie music played underneath]

Kelly

There’s two main ghosts that people see. One is the hat man, and he is in the main room here. The stage room. That’s most of the time where people see him and they still see him. If they’re on stage and they kind of look into the audience and he’s just. Hanging out in one of the seats there. People said that they see a man in like 20s or 30s attire and like one of those like the bowler hats. Just kind of he just kind of walks around here and then the girl, that one’s even worse. Yeah, she is in what is that, the studio?

George

It’s the studio. There’s a giant window area. And people will look in and from what I remember, she does not have a head.

Kelly

No, she has a head, just no face.

George

Oh, yes. No face.

Kelly

There was people down in the recording studio and they were like doing whatever they needed to for a class and they look because it’s like the glass between the recording studio at the room that’s there and they look out and they just see like a little girl. And they look out and she didn’t have a face. Like it was just blank. Kind of. Like there was. A head. But there was no face and they got. So damn scared. And they were not like paranormal Club members. They were not-They didn’t believe in anything at all. And they were like, I’m never going back in that building ever again. We did an investigation. We went into that room and one of our members felt a really cold spot behind them. And that happened to be where that chair was. And then we found out later that that’s where they see. That room just has a bunch of icky energy.

Haley

That being said, familiarize yourself with these voices. If you hear anything else, [pause, music stops] it wasn’t us.

Haley

So right now we’re sitting backstage of-on like the main stage of Weber Chapel. We’re going to go around in a circle and everyone is going to say their name. Starting to my left.

Janelle

Hi. This is Janelle. You’ve heard me before.

George

This is George.

Kelly

This is Kelly.

Tanner

This is Tanner.

Haley

and I’m Haley.

Haley

Today’s investigation was conducted through Kelly’s Spirit Box.

Kelly

So a spirit box, what it’s designed to do is it flips through radio frequencies really, really fast and you can control how fast or how slow, but in doing that the theory is that spirits can kind of grab onto the little words and sounds that come from switching between them so fast. And any words that you hear are like what they’re trying to say and it’s moving so fast that like, you can’t make out sounds. Unless they take it out.

Haley

For this portion of our investigation, the Spirit Box audio is being projected to the entirety of the group. Together, we attempt to make sense of what the spirits are saying.

[Noises of the spirit box start to sound, fast flips between radio frequencies]

Haley

Start off pretty simple. Is there anyone here with us right now?

[word comes across in the spirit box that sounds like Walmart]

[slowed down sound of that word]

Tanner

I heard Walmart

[laughs]

[even more slowed down playing of the word]

Janelle

Are we talking to a ghost named Walmart? No.

George

Wal-M-Art

Tanner

Are you willing to talk to us?

[Word that sounds like possibly comes across on the spirit box]

[replay of the sound in slow motion]

Tanner

Possibly?

George

I heard possible

Janelle

OK.

Haley

Why are you here?

[no response]

Janelle

Did you get killed at Walmart?

[laughs]

George

Yup!

[everyone laughs]

Janelle

How did you die?

[spirit box says something that sounds like a word]

[replay of the word slowed down]

Janelle

Walmart!!

[clap]

Haley

Murder? Did he say murder?

[another slowed down replay of the word]

Kelly

It could have been Walmart or murder.

George

I mean, they mean the same thing.

[laughs]

Tanner

Is there something that you want to say to us?

[another word comes across on the spirit box]

Tanner

I heard you’re fine.

Janelle

Yeah.

[slowed down replay of the word again]

Janelle

Walmart ghost, are you going to watch over us?

Haley

Have you seen Pitch Perfect?

[word comes across the spirit box]

Kelly

Yup!

[replay of the word slowed down because it sounds like “never” not “yup”]

[sad trombone sound inserted]

Janelle

Do you know the Riff Off?

[no response]

Janelle

Would you like us to sing it to you?

Haley

Demi Lovato style?

[clip of Demi Lavato singing Skyscraper to a ghost]

Janelle

If Taylor Swift came here and and sang to you, would it heal your trauma?

Haley

Do you think that reputation is dropping?

Tanner

Tomorrow? Do you know when it will be dropping?

[no response]

Is it gonna drop in December?

[no response]

Haley

George spoke over the ghost a little bit here. Not his fault. It sounds like it is saying, probably with a Scottish accent.

[slowed down replay of the word from the spirit box]

Kelly

Probably

Janelle

I heard probably

Haley

I think I heard probably.

Janelle

The ghost told us that it’s dropping in December.

Kelly

He said probably?

George

This is the chillest ghost I have ever seen.

Everyone

Listen, listen.

Kelly

[loudly]

He died in a Walmart!

[scary organ sounding music starts to play]

George

You know ghost, I ripped my pants in a Walmart once.

[everyone starts laughing]

Tanner

Do you have a problem with us being here?

[word comes across]

[slowed down replay of the word]

Kelly

I thought I heard it’s alright.

George

I heard it’s ight.

[everyone starts laughing]

I heard it’s OK.

Kelly

This is the chillest ghost ever

[scary organ music]

[loud foot stomp]

Tanner

Oh my God. I legitimately just killed that fly.

Haley

Well what did you think was gonna happen?

[everyone laughing]

Kelly

The ghost isn’t alone anymore!

[laughs]

[scary organ music]

Janelle

What’s your favorite Taylor Swift album?

[sound comes across the spirit box]

[slowed down replay of the word]

Tanner

Lover! I just heard Lover.

[Tanner laughs]

Kelly

I heard lover too.

Haley

That’s the closest thing it could have been.

Tanner

Same Queen!

[even more slowed down replay of the word]

Haley

What do you think about Harry Styles shaving his head?

Kelly

[shocked]

He what?

Haley

[impersonating Harry Styles]

I’m ‘erry Styles

Kelly

What are you saying?

[Tanner shows Kelly a photo of him]

Tanner

That’s Harry Styles

Kelly

[loudly exclaiming]

That’s Harry?!

Haley

I’m ‘erry Styles

[even more slowed down replay from above]

Kelly

You know, sometimes your normal will be very. Sometimes. I really hope that ghosts aren’t real so you’re just sitting in an empty room talking to a box.

[laughs]

Janelle

Do you love me?

[no response]

George

Do you have a name?

[we get something on the spirit box]

Tanner

Avery?

[children cheering]

George

Jeffery?

Tanner

Is your name Jeffrey?

[cricket sounds]

George

Gonna hang up on the spirit box. Thanks for talking with us.

Tanner and Haley

Goodbye.

Janelle

We had a great time, I love you.

George

Goodbye.

Kelly

Goodbye. You were so chill. I’m sorry you have to stay here.

Janelle

Goodbye Jeffery.

[spirit box gets turned off by Kelly]

George

I also wanted to mention I got a chill. When it finally said its name and that can be a sign of ghostly energy and stuff. Not saying that it was exactly, but definitely something that can be considered.

Haley

Up next, it was time to investigate the basement multi-purpose room, also known as the Handbell Room. This is a room that particularly freaks out Kelly, along with part of our team.

Tanner

I wore sneakers in case I needed to run.

Janelle

I also wear sneakers in case I need to run.

Tanner

Like, I don’t really know how I feel about being in there in the pitch black like that scares me.

George

Personally, to start this off everyone should come in.

Kelly

[she starts freaking out because the spirit box turned on by itself]

It turned on on its own.

[gasps]

George

[questioning tone]

You guys want to go in first?

Tanner

[bleep] no!

[mixture of sqeals and screams]

Tanner

I’m actually scared. Haley does not give a [bleep] like she’s not scared. I’m surprised Janelle walked in before me.

Janelle

You know, that now that I’m here I’m kind of like j-chilling.

[gasp]

[scared tone]

Oh, you know don’t close the door, don’t close the door.

Tanner

We are in the handbell room of Weber Chapel and George is currently holding a flashlight under his face to tell the story of this room. So go ahead, George.

George

In particular, this is a room where people normally see the faceless girl. There’s a room behind us. It’s the little studio area and that room in particular is where they end up seeing her. We’ve looked inside there before and there’s even a door behind it, which is really weird that in that door, it’s the under workings of the stage and how it spins. There is a doorknob you have to crawl up on a ladder, unlock the door, you open it, and within there is oh, it’s probably locked within there. It is absolutely terrifying. So take that how you will. But that little door. It’s like locked by a facilities. He unlocked it to show me and. Kenzi, president of Paranormal. And we looked in and it’s just a giant like train track. You could absolutely like, get caught and lose a body part if you like…

Janelle

A face would you say?

George

Uh, yes. Very possible.

[laughs]

Kelly

So for reference. This is the room they were in when they were filming, those people, the students were like doing their little project. So, they had the lights on in here. And I think their lights on out there, whatever you know, and they look out through this glass. And there was that little girl standing out there in that corner over there with her.

Tanner

Oh my God, I’m so scared right now.

Haley

Does anyone see anything?

Tanner

Nope!!

Haley

And unless you believe in orbs, we never saw anything.

Tanner

This room is like, really weirdly shaped, and there’s like a column right in the middle.

Janelle

As is everything in Webber Chapel, everything. Weber Chapel is so off.

Tanner

It’s because it’s a giant circle.

Haley

Like the door that we were looking at earlier is like off of the ground.

This was the most anticipated part of our investigation. The part where we would use the Estes method.

Kelly

The Estes method is basically, so you have your spirit box on one person has their headphones connected to the spirit box only they hear what it’s saying and that way it kind of eliminates bias. Everyone else in the group will ask the questions, but whoever is wearing the headphones can’t hear the questions. The person who’s getting the responses doesn’t know what the questions are. They just say what they hear. I have it on the volumes up. I can’t hear anything. I can’t even hear myself talk. I am going to start flipping to the channels and I’ll just say whatever I hear.

Janelle

First question.

Kelly

[immediately]

Yes

Tanner

Is there anyone here with us?

Janelle

You were so excited for our first question. Now you’re flaking.

Haley

Have you ever met Demi Lovato?

Kelly

Yup.

[everyone laughs]

Kelly

Ohh no, what did it say?

Janelle

Did she sing to you to heal your trauma? Did they sing to?

Kelly

Maybe.

[gasps]

Janelle

Maybe?!

Haley

Did it work?

Kelly

Stupid

Tanner and Janelle

[questioning tone]

Stupid?

George

Oh, they’re talking about me!

Tanner

Are you looking at George?

Haley

Are you looking at Janelle?

Janelle

Are you looking at Tanner?

Haley

Are you looking at Kelly?

Janelle

Are you looking at Haley?

Kelly

Yes

Tanner and Janelle

ohh

Haley

[more excited]

ohhh

Janelle

What do you want to say to Haley?

[overlapping Janelle]

Kelly

Stop?

Tanner

Is it OK…

[Kelly inturupts]

Kelly

Me?

Tanner

[in the background]

Is it OK that we’re here?

Kelly

Me.

Haley

Yes, you.

Janelle

Hey, no, that’s a good song by Taylor Swift.

Haley

Yeah, that’s true! I like the piano.

Janelle

Would it help if I sang it to you? Ready?

[Janelle starts singing ME! By Taylor Swift]

Promise that you’ll never find another like…

Kelly

[Interrupts Janelle singing]

No, stop.

Tanner

Is it OK that we’re here?

Kelly

[at the same time as Tanner says:]

No. Stop.

[Haley laughs]

Haley

OK.

George

Are you the little girl?

Janelle

Don’t answer that.

Haley

Do you have a name?

Kelly

Only

Haley

It was at this point that we had Kelly, our first conduit take off the headphones.

George

There were so many talks of like Taylor Swift and it was profusely saying “stop it, please!”

[everyone laughs]

Tanner

No, stop!

Haley

Up next, Tanner put on the headphones and was our conduit.

Janelle

Can you say my name Janelle, back to me?

Tanner

Isn’t

Janelle

Is it too hard for you?

Sorry, that was an insult. It wasn’t supposed to be?

Can you say George?

Tanner

Hi.

Janelle

OK, I’ll take that.

George

Hi.

Janelle

It’s nice to meet you. How are you? Yeah, you’re right. You’ve probably been better. Do you know…

Tanner

Me.

Janelle

What?

George

Yeah, Hi to you.

Haley

Do you like ME! by Taylor Swift? Would you like us to sing it for you?

Tanner

Repost.

George and Haley

Repost? Repost.

George

Alright, what do you want me to repost?

Janelle

Would you like me to sing to you?

Haley

Would it heal your trauma?

Kelly

All you here is “me-e-e”

Haley

Are you familiar with John Mulaney?

Tanner

I am.

[gasps and screams]

Haley

[screams]

Yes!

Are you new in town?

Janelle

So where were you when Tyler was getting kicked off the seesaw?

[inserted John Mulaney clip]

“I was over on the bench”

Janelle

Did you say feet?

[everyone laughs]

Do you like feet?

Do you? Do you have a foot fetish?

Haley

Why did Janelle bring up feet? I don’t know.

Tanner

Lauren.

Janelle

Lauren, is it your name Lauren?

Kelly

Or Warren?

Haley

Warren, Peace from Warren Peace,

Haley and Janelle together

Warren Peace from Sky High?

Janelle

The iconic movie Sky High. Do you like the movie Sky High?

Kelly

[immediately after]

Are you trapped in here?

Haley

Have you ever gotten to see Sky High?

Haley

For some reason the ghost didn’t want to talk about Sky High as much as I did. We were forced to move on with our investigation. Janelle serving as our conduit.

Janelle

They were just playing the start to some sick beat but no words.

Haley

Have you seen the Patrick Swayze film Ghost?

Janelle

Bruce, possibly bruise.

Haley

Is there anyone named Bruce?

[laughs]

Haley

Janelle wasn’t hearing very much.

Janelle

I don’t think these [bleep] like to talk to me.

Haley

So, we tried a new conduit. Me. Me, as in Haley, not the Taylor Swift song.

Tanner

Do you need to tell us something?

Janelle

Do you like Taylor Swift?

Haley

One?

Janelle, Kelly and Tanner

The 1 by Taylor Swift?!

Janelle

I can sing it to you. Would you like me to sing it to you?

Tanner

Do you need your trauma healed?

Janelle

[singing the 1 by Taylor Swift]

I’m doing good I’m on some new shit.

Haley

There’s a lot of singing in this episode. Anyway, I wasn’t hearing much either, so we decided to move on.

Tanner

I think we should move closer. I’m feeling adventurous.

Kelly

Oh yeah.

Janelle

I’m feeling scared, but also the ghosts didn’t talk to me.

Haley

I’m feeling sad it didn’t talk to me. That was the only thing I wanted to do.

Haley

We decided that it would be best if we took the leap and moved closer to where the supposed ghost girl sits.

Tanner

So, George is currently talking to a chair.

Everyone

Yes

[all you can hear is noises of feet on the ground, aka Janelle doing the Cotton Eyed Joe]

Tanner

Bro, is that Cotton Eyed Joe? Yay. Yay. Yay. Yay.

Tanner

Can you give us a sign if you’re here?

Haley

Do you like Taylor Swift?

Have you seen Pitch Perfect?

Kelly

Well, we definitely know who the Shaneyack of the group is.

[laughs]

Janelle

Do you wanna fight? [pause] Don’t answer that.

Haley

How long have you been here for?

George

21.

Everyone

Ohhhh!

Janelle

21 OK

Haley

Can you do something for me?

Tanner

Can you do something for us?

Janelle

I mean Taylor Swift did say it’s supposed to be fun turning 21, and I don’t think it was much fun for them.

George

What?

Janelle

Can you tell us your name? What? Did you not get to hear All Too Well 10 minute version? Is that why you’re confused? OK, so Taylor Swift and All Too Well, 10 minute version, which she released in 2021 on Red (Taylor’s version). If you don’t know what Taylor’s version is, re releasing all of her old albums to get the rights to her own music. OK.

Haley

Would you like Janelle to stop talking?

Janelle

So she’s releasing all these songs and she’s releasing these things called vault tracks, which are songs that she wrote around the same time as the albums, but she’s now releasing them.

George

Yeah.

Tanner

So yeah, you’re familiar.

Janelle

So you so you know that. OK, great. So on Red (Taylor’s version), she released All Too Well, 10 minute version where she released all this extra stuff. And she had a part where she was talking about her 21st birthday when Jake Gyllenhaal promised that he would come, and then he didn’t show up. And so she has the lyric in her song that goes, it’s supposed to be fun turning 21. Do you know what I’m saying?

George

I am

Janelle

You are 21!

Kelly

Good job.

Haley

If you’re with us, knock those chairs down.

George

There.

Haley

Yeah.

Janelle

Yeah, right there.

[cricket noises]

George

Hi.

Haley

Hi.

Janelle

Yeah, hi. Nice to meet you.

Kelly

Are you in the recording studio right now? Is that, am I looking at you in the glass window right now or through the glass, at all.

Haley

There’s, there’s nothing there.

And there wasn’t.

George

It is.

Tanner

“It is”, what?

Haley

Elaborate.

It didn’t. So we had George take off his headphones.

Tanner

We were like, do you want us to see you or something like that? And you immediately looked over there. That scared the [bleep] out of me.

George

I don’t know. I’m gonna be completely honest with you. That hurting like this area, I feel so sick about that one in particular I feel really sick about. There was a moment where I thought I heard it say closed, but it like didn’t fully complete. And I didn’t know if it meant it wanted. That door closed? Or it was because you closed that door?

Haley

Tanner decided that she wanted to try to be a conduit one last time.

Janelle

Go in to ghost world, Tanner.

Tanner

Scary.

Janelle

You know, this room is scary. I-I will give you that. Are you scared right now?

Tanner

Move.

Janelle

Move. You want us to move?

Tanner

Shell

George

Would you like us to shout?

Tanner

On.

Hey.

Janelle

Show, on, hey.

Haley and Kelly

Hey

Tanner

Go.

Janelle

Go?

George

You want us to leave?

Haley

If you’re asking enough times, it will say yes.

Tanner

See

Haley

In Español.

[everyone laughs]

Janelle

Do you speak Spanish?

Tanner

Move.

Janelle

Move. OK. That’s the second time, they said move.

George

Who would you like to move? Would you like George to move? I’m George, I am raising my hand.

Haley

Do you want Haley to move?

Kelly

Do you want Kelly to move?

Janelle

Do you want us all to move?

Haley

Are you even with us?

Janelle

Would you like me to perform Cotton Eyed Joe again? Alternatively, Since You’ve Been gone by…

Tanner

On.

Janelle

On?

Haley

On and on and on.

Janelle

I mean, I can do it. Don’t worry, hang on.

[stomp sounds from Janelle dancing once again]

Do you like this?

George

I can do a mean Macarena.

Janelle

Yes. Do you want George to do the macarena for you.

Kelly

I don’t want George to do the macarena.

[laughs]

Tanner

Here.

Kelly and George

Here?

Haley

Are you here?

Would you have been married a long time ago, had it not been for cotton eyed Joe? Where did you come from and where did you go?

[aggressive]

Where did you come from?

Tanner

Yeah.

Haley

Well, that’s not a fucking answer!

[laughs]

Tanner

No.

[stomp noises start the beginning of the Riff Off from the movie Pitch Perfect]

[Kelly and Janelle start dancing and singing the Riff Off]

Janelle and Kelly

“oh, Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind, hey Micky! Hey, Hey!

Haley

Would you like us to stop?

[singing does not stop]

Janelle and Kelly

“You’re so fine, and you’re mine. I’ll be yours till the end of time…”

Haley

Like I said, lots of singing. I cut this down for you, by the way. You’re welcome.

Haley

Guys, we’re not getting any responses.

[Janelle and Kelly continue to sing]

Haley

Yeah, they kept going.

To conclude our investigation, we decided that we wanted to put Kelly in as conduit one last time. She was the one who got the most responses and of course she was the one with the Spirit box.

Tanner

Do you want to scare us?

Haley

Do you want to be our friends?

Is there anyone here?

George

Are you in that room behind me?

Haley

Are you the man in the yellow hat?

Kelly

Noo.

Tanner

Well, we ruled that one out!

Haley

Triumphant!

We asked you to knock down those chairs. Can you knock down those chairs here?

Kelly

Here.

Haley

No, not here, there, those chairs.

[cricket noises]

George

Are you tired?

Kelly

No.

Tanner

Do you have a face?

[laughs]

Janelle

That’s kind of rude to ask somebody.

Tanner

Um, hello? The faceless girl?

Kelly

Yes.

Janelle

OK. You have a face. All right, that’s pretty good. That’s good. Maybe.

George

Do you have a hat?

Haley

We’re going to stop talking to you now.

Janelle

OK.

Kelly

Your.

Tanner

Your mom?

Janelle and Tanner

HAHA!

Haley

And with that, we said our goodbyes to the potentially faceless girl in the basement of Weber Chapel.

Kelly

Thank you for talking to us.

Haley

You are not welcome in our home. You are not welcome to follow us. Please stay here.

George

Thank you for talking.

Tanner

We appreciate you.

Janelle

We appreciate you. We love you. Stay here. Thank you.

Haley

Goodbye.

Kelly

Eye-ye-ye, what the [bleep] happened while I was in Ghostland, man.

[Haunted SU theme music fades in then out]

[calm music fades in behind As number one]

Tanner AD

Are you, a Susquehanna student, interested in all things supernatural? Are you not in the paranormal club? It’s totally for you. The Paranormal Club meets on Thursdays at 5:00 PM in Abuam, 319. At their meetings, they go over presentations, discuss their experiences, and generally have a lot of fun. It’s a great place to go and meet people who share similar interest to you. Plus, they throw an incredible haunted house around Halloween. That’s the one where we got clips of Janelle screaming. They’re always looking for fresh meat. I mean, new members. You should definitely stop by next Thursday.

[calm music fades out, jazzy music fades in under the ad]

Janelle AD

Do you have a bad ex? We know you do. You want to get back at them, but standard soft launches and PDA just aren’t cutting it. Don’t worry, there is a solution. Exact your revenge by hiring Ghosts For Grievances, an acting troop dedicated to convincing people they’re being haunted by some sort of supernatural entity. The girls at Ghost For Grievances have spent the past six years honing their craft to become the best haunters this side of the Susquehanna River. For $69.99, the team will leave messages and lipstick on walls and mirrors, whisper your name into your ex’s ear and break a decent chunk of their belongings. If you want to scare a real monster this spooky season, call Ghost For Grievances at  66 [pause] 7-66 [pause]2-66 [pause]06.

[jazzy music fades out, Haunted SU theme music fades in then out]

Tanner

Hey, everyone. Welcome back. This is Tanner. Right now we’re just going to go through our reflection off of our investigation. Yeah, so.

Janelle

This is Janelle. If you don’t recognize my voice.

Haley

Hi, this is Haley.

Tanner

All right, so let’s just talk like let’s just talk about initial thoughts, maybe go over some specific things that happened that we weren’t expecting or just some, let’s give some general overview on how we feel about our investigation.

Janelle

I had a great time.

Haley

I had fun.

Janelle

Yeah.

Tanner

I also had fun.

Haley

We didn’t find anything. It was fun…

Tanner

Like, if I’m being totally honest, I thought we were gonna be getting so much more. And like, I was scared at first and I was like, I had a lot of adrenaline. I was like, ready to go and I was scared when we were sitting upstairs behind the stage. I was scared and then we got into the basement and I was scared at first, and then I was like, we weren’t really getting anything. And I was like, OK, can this pick up or something? I appreciate what we did get. But I think I was expecting more. I don’t know. It was like it was super funny. Like the things you’re asking were funny. And then I was like, I want this to be serious. Like, I want a a real ghost hunt and I want to get some good shit, you know what I’m saying?

Janelle

Yeah, I thought I was gonna be a lot more scared than I was. I wasn’t scared at all when we were behind the stage. Actually, I was just having a great time. Then we went downstairs, and I’m just generally scared of downstairs in Weber. And we were like, sitting down there, and I wasn’t as scared if they had closed that door. Like, if George had actually fully closed that door, I would have been so much more scared.

Tanner

At the end of it, I was like, let’s close the door all the way,

Janelle

No.

Tanner

…like lights off. I was just at the point where I was like, I feel like it beat the door being open and the light being in here is scaring away this faceless girl. So, let’s bring her out!

[laughs]

Bring her out!

Haley

There’s no faceless girl.

Tanner

[yells]

Stop! You’re such a skeptic!

[laughs]

Haley

There’s not. OK, if there was a faceless girl down there, maybe we would have seen her. You know, we didn’t like even remotely, like, get anything close and didn’t get anything that indicated that, like maybe we were in contact with her, like it wasn’t anything that was even remotely like this could apply to her. Like, if you like, vaguely loosely stringing things together as ghost hunters often do.

Janelle

I don’t know. I I thought it was fun. I didn’t really think we’d get any more than that necessarily. I knew we’d probably get some funny stuff. Answers that did not make sense at all. I did not expect to see anything, but I was like, there were times when I was we were down there and it was, like, darker. And I looked over at that window and I was like, please don’t let there be anything there.

[Janelle laughs]

Tanner

That was how I was feeling too, because when we were sitting in a circle. I had like straight view of the chair that everyone was like, oh, that’s where they saw the girl. Whatever. I could see it. So, I kept looking over there and I was like, I wasn’t sure if I was expecting to see something or I was like, Oh my God. Like, let me not see something. But I also agree, like looking in that window, I kind of was like, am I seeing something like, is something there? Is something going to be there? I didn’t know what to expect.

Haley

Like I really I didn’t like the window, but I felt like it was just kind of like a weird like design for a room in general.

Tanner

I, I agree. I think at one point I was. Like just to know if this room is shaped really weird and I was like, it doesn’t make sense the way that it was shaped and that kind of freaked me out because it was like. The way that you’re sitting, it could have been weird. Like I don’t know about you guys, but if some like I have a lot of space behind me and I’m sitting like somewhere dark, it kind of creeps me out. Like, I feel like there’s something behind me. So that’s why I sat with my back against the wall. Because I just like. That’s just a fear I have.

Haley

So for those of you who have never been to this room, it was kind of like it was the handbell room. I think it’s like also like, a multi-purpose room. And you walk in and they have, like, the set up for, like, the the handbells, where they actually, like, practice, like through, like, kind of like the center of the room. There’s like a random. Pillar, like in the middle and then along the back there is a couch and then two chairs set up. There was also like a rack with chairs next to that and then on the other side of the couch there was a sink that was odd.

Janelle

Yeah, that was weird.

Tanner

Yeah, but maybe the little girl needs to like wash her non face. I guess. I don’t know.

[Tanner laughs]

Haley

Yeah. And then like to the to the left of like the chair rack and everything there was that like weird room. And there was like a glass window that kind of like you could like, look out into it. And that’s what everyone was. And inside of there, there’s a few like other like little things. But there was, like, a door that’s, like, halfway off the ground. Very odd. Very Winchester house.

Tanner

Which that um, is like the…

Janelle

It’s the tracks.

Tanner

It’s the tracks for the rotating stage. That’s what I was getting at. Yes, that’s what George said. It was halfway off the ground because of, like, just the positioning of the stage and like things like that, right?

Haley

Yeah. I mean, logically, like it’s it’s off the ground for a reason, but it’s just still weird.

Tanner

We did try to open the door, by the way, and it was locked.

Janelle

Yeah, I don’t understand why there was no stairs by the door, because I’m like, people do have to get there. I’m like, do they just have to get a chair and, like, climb on top of it? I don’t know.

Tanner

I think they just want to make it, like not accessible.

Janelle

I was surprised that that was the room that, like people, were having the weirdest experiences in, because I’m like.

Tanner

It’s so random.

Janelle

It’s like I feel personally like there are so many scarier parts of Weber, like, even just in that hallway, I’m like 100%. I feel like I would have been 10 times more terrified just in that like long curved hallway.

Tanner

We could have sat in that hallway with the lights off and probably gotten something. Something more, maybe, but also I was thinking we should have sat on the, you know that one door that I opened. And I was like, oh, these are the stairs. We should, I feel like we should have sat on the stairs that go into the pit and, like, did something because like, that’s spooky.

Janelle

I think we just spent too long in that handbell room after we weren’t getting anything. We should have moved to another location.

Haley

I think that like the way that they hyped it up kind of made us be like, oh, like that’s the spot. You know. But we weren’t getting anything. And I also think that there was, the Chapel was huge, so there was definitely a lot of different places we could have went to try to get more stuff. And that’s why the ghost files episodes are like an hour long, of them just investigating.

Tanner

Yeah, cause they have so many places that they can go.

Janelle

Yeah.

Tanner

I think we were all really excited to try the Estes method, the one with the headphones, single person listening to the spirit box, so that like kept us in there because we each wanted to try and I think that we all really just wanted something from the supposed little girl that’s in there and that’s why we stayed for so long because we just really wanted to get something. And we got lucky upstairs.

Janelle

The little faceless girl did not like me. Whoever was in that room didn’t like me cause A, they would not talk to me on the spirit box or Haley, which thing might just be part of the fact that, like I don’t know that we believed as much.

[Janelle laughs]

Haley

Well, I was just kind of like, I was listening for stuff, though, you know, like, I was gonna.

Janelle

Yeah, yeah. But I wasn’t hearing anything.

Tanner

I was fully into it. I was like, I wanted something, bad, and I was like, I believe I had, I was holding the headphones on my ears. I was like, I believe. Come on, give me something little girl!

[Tanner laughs]

Janelle

I just really badly wanted to hear a bunch of stuff that I could say like regardless of whether or not I believe in ghosts. I’m like, I wanted to hear something and then when she told me through Kelly to stop singing ME! by Taylor Swift, I was offended.

Tanner

By that, yeah, I actually, like, cackled. And then I was like, wait, is she not a Swiftie?

Janelle

I don’t know!

Tanner

[violently]

Are we even allowed to feature her in the Pod if she’s not a Swiftie?

Haley

I don’t think we should feature her at all.

[Haley laughs]

Janelle

Jeffery is a Swiftie.

Tanner

Jeffrey is a Swiftie for sure.

Haley

She doesn’t talk to us, so I don’t think we should feature her.

[awkward laughs from Haley]

Tanner

That’s true.

Janelle

Well, there was the, the ME! part was funny

Haley

Yeah. I mean, you know, like, but like, was that even her? You know, like we never got confirmation it was the girl.

Janelle

That’s true.

Tanner

Yeah.

Janelle

Try to explain Taylor’s versions to her too, but if she doesn’t even know Taylor Swift period, because I guess she’s in a Victorian like a pink Victorian dress. She probably doesn’t know who Taylor Swift is at all. I mean, maybe they’re playing Taylor Swift songs on the handbells down there when they’re practicing, and then that’s her exposure to Taylor Swift.

Tanner

I would, if they are playing Taylor’s songs on these handbells consider me a Joiner.

Janelle

[laughs]

You want to join the handbells?

Tanner

Consider me a, consider me a part of the handbell group, if you will.

Haley

So I mean, like, I feel like they’re just describing people in old timey clothing. I’m gonna be so real. They’re like, and the man is sometimes seen in 20s or 30s clothing. And the girl is seen in Victorian clothing. Also they were like, there’s no record of a girl dying in that cemetery.

Tanner

Yeah.

Janelle

Yeah. There’s like no girl buried in the cemeteries nearby

Tanner

Only boys.

Janelle

So.

Haley

It just doesn’t necessarily, I mean I believe that the people think that they saw something. The fact that like people only started to say that they also saw it afterwards is kind of interesting to me.

Janelle

I do think it’s interesting how these legends kind of spread.

Haley

Yeah.

Janelle

Because I feel like one person thinks they see something and that other people report the same things. But it’s like after that first initial sighting, like, how can you really trust it, I don’t know? It’s interesting. Maybe it’s just something in your mind that it’s like, OK. I’ve heard people say that they saw this down here and so then it’s like…

Haley

You’re on edge.

Tanner

Yeah.

Janelle

You’re on edge, and you’re imagining that you saw that same thing even if you like maybe didn’t.

Haley

Especially like if you’re inclined to like really fully believe like, I feel like people who are like, truly, truly like ghost are real,  ghosts are real ghosts are real, like we need to prove it. We need to find evidence, you know. I think they’re more likely to kind of like grasp for things just kind of be like, oh, I think I saw something. I think I heard something even though, like, it may not have been like fully there. And, you know, a lot of the time you’re doing this stuff in the dark. So it’s really like, hard.

Janelle

That too. And I think for me too, I don’t want to say that this experience made me more skeptical, casue I don’t think that’s it. I just think that I think that if we had gotten more like intense answers to our serious questions, like if we had been like, why are you here? If they had answered those questions, and we had gotten like yes or no answers. And like all this stuff, I would have been freaked. I would have been freaked. But because we didn’t, and we were just, you know having fun with our questions. I think that kind of put me at ease so. Will I ever walk around Weber Chapel in the dark? No.

Tanner

No, I wouldn’t either.

Janelle

Do I necessarily believe that it’s haunted. Eh? However, I do feel like I could be friends with the little faceless girl if I go down there again, so I’d be like, hey, that’s my bud. She’s not gonna kill me.

Tanner

Yeah, I’ve sat in her chair before, you know?

Janelle

Yeah.

Tanner

So, I feel like if we got more evidence, like Janelle said, and it was just a better run overall. I would be way more of a believer and be like yes, Weber’s haunted. But at this point. We didn’t get enough to convince me.

Janelle

Yeah, I don’t know that I believe Weber’s haunted, other places? Sure. Other places can be haunted. I’m not. I’m not going against that. I don’t know that Weber personally is haunted.

Haley

That’s one of like my biggest things like I do, I’m not necessarily fully against the idea of ghosts being real. I think that ghosts are probably real. I mean, there’s like a good chance that somewhere out there is haunted. But I was like, I don’t necessarily think that our campus is haunted. I just, I don’t know. After this it doesn’t feel like it really was because we didn’t find any like. Proof.

Tanner

Yeah. I feel like if we maybe did another investigation. In Weber, maybe at a later time because we did go, it was like 7:00 PM when we went. Maybe if we went towards like midnight or something where no one was in the Chapel at all, then maybe we would have gotten something.

Haley

You know, the genre of scary YouTube videos where they, like, do not call among us at 3:00 AM. Like, that’s like when we need to go.

Tanner

Yeah, like 3:00 AM is the hour to go. I would totally be down to exploring Weber again if the possibility arose for us, but I don’t see me doing it on my own. You know what I mean?

Janelle

Yeah, you know what question we forgot? I think this is the only question that we were like, this is what we’re going to ask them and we didn’t. We never asked either the little girl or Jeffrey, if they tried to reenact the scene from Ghost.

Haley

We asked them about Ghost. We never asked about them reenacting it.

Tanner

I do remember asking about Ghost.

Janelle

OK.

Haley

I know that I asked the girl.

Janelle

OK, for sure.

Tanner

I have to say when I got back to my dorm room after the investigation, I was like, walking alone in the dark. And I was totally fine. I thought I was going to be scared to death. I thought I was going to be scared to death. So I went back.

Janelle

I did too.

Tanner

I got in my bed and I looked up where to watch Ghost and it wasn’t free anywhere and it ruined my night Like we didn’t, we didn’t. What I was expecting on the investigation.

Janelle

I will say about our investigation. I was very grateful for Kelly and George being there, not only cause they very well, bounced off our energy and our humor and like joined in, but also just because. I mean Kelly had some great background about like what we were maybe expecting to find where the most Active, “active”, Ha, finger quotes, active spots in the Chapel are and they just have more knowledge about like OK here are like common signs of like ghost activity like. Kelly’s flashlight was misfunctioning, which she said was like, you know, they mess with technology. And like George said, he felt a chill on his back, things like that. But I’m just saying, like, it was, it was helpful to kind of hear some of the more signs from people who had a bit more experience than we did and kind of frame our experiences with that.

Tanner

Yeah, shout out Kelly and George, we love you and we’re very thankful that you decided to join us on our investigation. Thank you for coming.

Janelle

Yes, very helpful. Very fun.

Haley

Thank you for coming.

Tanner

I had fun with it. I would, I would totally do it again if I was with people like Kelly and George because they were like, like we said, they were very knowledgeable. They taught us a lot of things. And they also made sure that we were doing it in the correct way in, and like a safe way.

Janelle

I did appreciate them being like, OK, before we leave anywhere we have to be like, do not follow us. You are not welcome. You must stay here. Because I feel like, yeah, that would creep me out. So I felt like even though I’m, like, kind of iffy on like whether or not we actually communicate or if there was anyone there, I still was like…

Haley

Don’t take any chances.

Janelle

Yes, don’t take any chances. So I was like, you’re not welcome here. Like, stay here please. Yeah, that was very helpful that they kind of taught us the, the, the proper protocol for that just cause you know, even if whether or not I believe it, I I don’t like taking chances in life. But I think like I felt very at ease after that which part of that was probably because we didn’t really find anything super conclusive or super creepy and like the answer the answers that we did get were like to funny questions.

Tanner

Yeah.

Janelle

So I’m just like we’re having a good time with our guy Jeffrey, who possibly died was, Murdered in a Walmart? And likes Taylor Swift, he thinks reputation is dropping in December.

[everyone laughs]

Tanner

Who knows?

Janelle

So, watch out for that.

Tanner

Yeah, RIP the theory that it was dropping on the 10th

Janelle

Actually, this episode is probably coming out in December, so you’ll know.

Everyone

So!

Tanner

You’ll know before present us know.

Janelle

Yeah.

Tanner

Listeners have a one up.

Haley

So, if you hear a scream across campus, it’s not gonna be me, but it might be one of them. I don’t know.

Tanner

It’s probably going to be Janelle or I.

Janelle

If reputation drops in December, I’m going back into  Weber Chapel and giving Jeffrey a kiss on the lips.

Tanner

Period.

Haley

Like at what point in December would it have to drop?

Janelle

Any time.

Haley

OK.

Tanner

You’ll hear her scream from [Minnesota accent] Minne-sota.

[loud laughs from everyone]

Janelle

[laughing]

For our listeners, I’m from Minne – [accent] Minnesota. I can whip out my accent.

Haley

You say you say…

Tanner

I don’t know what a Minnesota accent sounds like and I don’t know where that came from, like me saying Minnesota like that.

[laughing]

Janelle

[in an accent]

I can pull it out now. It’s the, it’s the O’s a lot of times that will get ya.

Haley

Minnesota is Diet Canada.

Janelle

Yes, it is kind of Diet Canada.

[laughs]

Tanner

I’ve never heard that before!

Janelle

I’ve never heard that before either but that is funny.

Haley

I mean, for like, one of the biggest things that I kind of took away from, well, this is like what I wrote down.

People have been trying to prove or disprove the existence of ghosts. Like literally forever.

Tanner

Yeah.

Haley

If we had been able to find out and prove that ghosts are or are not real within the span of an hour would have been hilarious.

Tanner

Legendary. It would have been legendary.

Janelle

It would have been so funny, and it and it would have been through something like Jeffrey appears to us and starts talking about Taylor Swift.

Tanner

You know what I’m thinking. What if we brought them like a little gift or something?

Janelle

The ghosts?

Tanner

Like in our investigation, what would have happened if we brought them a little like, just a little peace offering?

Haley

I mean we can go back and bring them something if you want, but.

Tanner

Um, I’d rather not. I guess like I’m if, if I’m gonna explore somewhere again, it’s gonna be somewhere in a different building.

Janelle

Yeah.

Haley

OK.

What’s what’s the next building on your list?

Tanner

I kind of wanna do the library, like the basement?

Janelle

Yeah, I’m, I’m interested about that too.

Tanner

What if we could, like, just sat in the archive? There has to be some sort of like spirits attached.

Janelle

I’m not going on another investigation. Sorry, guys.

Tanner

No?

Janelle

No, I won’t do it again.

Tanner

That’s disappointing.

Haley

You weren’t even scared!

Janelle

No, but again, I don’t like to take my chances and I feel like I got very lucky and I don’t particularly like sitting in dark buildings at night, so I don’t think that this is something that I will repeat in my life. I had a great time for what it was, but I don’t quite know that we’re gonna find anybody as friendly as Jeffrey. Again, and I’d rather not see who else we find.

Haley

I don’t think we’d find someone else.

[laughs]

Tanner

Our ghost adventures have retired after that.

[laughs]

Janelle

We had a very short career,

Tanner

but one that’s definitely memorable. I have to say!

Janelle

Definitely memorable.

Tanner

We had so much fun exploring, reflecting, talking to the people in the paranormal club, and I think that we executed this well.

Haley

It was a lot of fun, I think that is like the best thing that could have happened, we just had fun.

Tanner

Yeah, we had fun with it and we were interested in the topic, right away and we were open. We were open to the experience, and I think that really mattered and that really helped us.

Janelle

Yeah, I was very, I was very open to what we would find, like I was spooked going into it. But then, you know, we started having fun with it. And like, I feel like Kelly and George put me at ease. Yeah, I had a good time. I feel like I learned a lot and had a good experience. Will I ever put on my ghost hunting cap again? No. It’ll probably just extend to me continuing to watch Ghost Files for as long as they make that show

Tanner

Mmhhmm.

Haley

[in a whisper]

Love ghost files

Janelle

But overall, yeah, I feel like this is a really positive experience and I’m really happy that it’s an experience that I had.

Tanner

Yeah, me as well. I think that if the opportunity arose for me to go ghost hunting, I probably would do it. If I’m being honest, I probably would do it.

Janelle

Tanner, would you say that you faced your fears?

Tanner

I would say that I did, and I overcame them.

Janelle

Haley, you didn’t learn how to scream.

Haley

No 🙁 I don’t know if I ever will, it’s really concerning. Like what if I need to scream?

Tanner

It would just happen.

Janelle

I feel, yeah, I feel like it’s a very, like, primal instinct. Like when you need to do it, it’ll happen.

Tanner

Yeah, you’ll know.

Haley

I feel like I’d get scared and not scream.

Janelle

Eh? I don’t know.

And did I become less scared? Of Weber? Yes, in general, no. No, I still…

Tanner

Well, I think. That’s good. You overcame your fears about Weber. Let it go.

Janelle

Ish. I still would not walk down in the like long curved hallway in the dark.

Tanner

Neither will I. Neither will I.

Haley

So, did you even face your fears?

[laughs]

Tanner

I did face my fears! I was like, close the door, turn all the lights off, and I was like, I was willing to. You know, put the headphones on and I just like, I really leaned into the experience, I think, and that really helps me too. Overcome the fear that I had of going into that situation.

Janelle

Yeah, I wasn’t willing to go close that door and be, like, totally lights out on everything. That was too much for me, and I still wouldn’t.

Tanner

Yeah, and that’s OK.

Janelle

And I still won’t go watch horror movies. I still, again wouldn’t do this again. Still won’t take any chances, but for what it was, I had a great time.

Tanner

Yes, so did I.

Haley

I just wanna say thanks for everyone for going on this journey with us, including Kelly and George. And of course you too, as my fellow Co hosts.

Tanner

Yes, yes!

Janelle

Yeah. I had a great time. I am very happy that we got to hang out and make this episode. Gained 2 new friends.

Tanner

Mhhmm!

Janelle

And yeah, I’m just very grateful I had so, so much fun, and I hope you all enjoy going on this lovely journey with us.

Tanner

Yes, thank you all. If you have made it this far, consider us your new buddies. We obviously, like we said, we’ve had so much fun with this and we’re just really excited and appreciative of the opportunities that we got from this podcast episode and the experiences within. And we just want to say thank you for listening!

Haley

If you’re looking for any more ghost content, we obviously recommend Ghost Files and the Patrick Swayze film Ghost.

Janelle

Also, go watch the video of Demi Lovato singing to ghosts. It’s really funny and Pitch Perfect. Watch Pitch Perfect.

Haley

I mean, if we just want to give recommendations for like 30 minutes, lets continue. Read Curious George.

Tanner

I feel like we could go on and on.

Janelle

Read Curious George, listen to Taylor Swift

Haley

Make sure that you keep an eye out for reputation in December.

Haley

Thank you all for sitting through our Taylor Swift references. Our pitch perfect moments, our Curious George moments, our Ghost Files, moments the list goes on. But you know what we’re saying!

Haley

John Mulaney.

Tanner

[whispers]

Period.

Well, that’s it, folks. We’ll see you on the next one.

Haley

I, I don’t I. Don’t know if we’ll see them. On the next one.

[Haunted SU music fades in]
